Nobbling Nobby
The Australian Treasurer, Mr Keating, has attacked the National Australia Bank’s (N.A.8.) managing director, Mr Nobby Clark, for saying the Government could be brought down if homeloan interest rates rose to 16.5%. Speaking in Sydney, Mr Keating said the banks, not the Government, were responsible for increasing interest rates. “If banks want to lift their housing rates by a per cent or half a per cent more than their competitors or as a group, that’s a judgment they make vis-a-vis their customers and their competitors.”
