GDP up in Aust.
NZPA-AAP Canberra Australia’s seasonally adjusted real gross domestic product (GDP) rose 1.9 per cent in the December quarter, making a rise of 4.2% in the year to the end of December, the Bureau of Statistics said. Gross non-farm product rose 1.9% in the latest quarter after a 0.1% fall the previous quarter and compared with a 1.1% rise in the December quarter a year earlier. The bureau said GDP increased 4.2% in the year ended December, 1988, gross farm product rose 1.0% and gross non-farm product rose 4.4%. For the year ended the September quarter, GDP rose 2.9%, gross ‘ farm product rose 3.4%, and gross nonfarm prodiict 2.9%. Government expenditure fell marginally to sAustll.29 billion from SIL3IB, revised from 511.878 in the September quarter and compared with $11.128 in the December quarter a year earlier.
