Twenty-five years to celebrate

Middleton Grange School’s . twenty-fifth jubilee marks a significant and special milestone in the school’s history. It is a celebration and thanksgiving for all that has been achieved since the school opened in 1964.

Several hundred past pupils and people associated with the school will gather next week-end to rekindle old friendships and give thanks for the special nature of the

school which has played such an important part in their lives. The jubilee programme begins on Friday, April 7, with an open day, to which parents and the public have been invited to see the school in action. The conversazione to be held during the evening will give those attending the chance to catch up on all that has happened during past years. Classrooms will be open and photographs will be on display. An attractively produced and well written book tracing the development of the school by the School’s second principal, Eric Dunlop, will be on sale during the week-end. The sports function which begins at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, has as its highlight an event which could well become a tradition and is expected to generate high interest. The present 1500 m record holder, Paul Morrow, is to pit his prowess against the past record holder, Simon Yarrell. This event will be held at the school. Teams of past pupils will have fun competing against each other in sports events during the afternoon too. ,

The jubilee banquet at night will replenish those who have spent their energies at the sports events during the afternoon. The emphasis will be on thanksgiving at the jubilee service in the Christchurch Town Hall on Sunday, April 9 at 2.30 p.m. This will be an occasion to be remembered by everyone who is and has been associated with the school. The whole school will take part. Music will take centre stage in the service. The school’s music master, Richard Marrett, has arranged three pieces of music especially for the service. The combined choir will sing “My Tribute,” and “Sing Unto The Lamb” by Whitehart.
