Oxford A. and P. Show draws record crowd

A record attendance was bathed in sunshine at the eighty-third Oxford Agricultural and Pastoral Association Show on Saturday. The event was held at the Show Grounds, Oxford. Entries were up in most sections, some having a record number. In the sheep section, the quality of stock was very high, in spite of the drought conditions, said the show’s president, Mr Melville Wells. Several pens of export lambs, judged on the hoof on Saturday, will be killed at the Alliance Group’s Kaiapoi works. Competitors and others are invited to inspect the processed stock at the works on Wednesday at 10.15 a.m. More interest was being seen in this section with the trend towards further processing, said Mr Wells. For the first time, machinery, vintage tractors and cars had taken a turn around the ring this year. This had proved a success, he said.
