Evans makes debut
PA London While his All White colleagues were preparing for their World Cup match against Australia at Auckland, Ceri Evans made his big breakthrough in English soccer when he made his second division debut for Oxford United at the week-end. Evans, who played in the qualifying matches in Israel and Australia but was not available for the home legs, turned out at centre half for Oxford in its 1-0 defeat at Leicester City. The tall former Christchurch United defender was given his chance after a series of commanding performances in the Oxford reserve team this season.
