Brown Edition too strong
PA Palmerston North The Hawera galloper, Brown Edition, gave nothing else a chance in the $40,000 Hotel Association Handicap, first leg of the Manawatu Racing Club’s T.A.B. double at Awapuni on Saturday. Brown Edition was in charge before the field left the home straight the first time. He kept up a strong gallop to win by a length and a quarter. It was rider. Kim Clapper-
ton’s, fiftieth win of the season, A five-year-old by Little Brown Jug, Brown Edition won the Manawatu Cup in December. He has also won a Fielding Cup and an Ashhurst Cup and will be trying to add to his collection later in the month in the Hawke’s Bay Cup. He was followed home by Taitoru, which ran on well to shade Candide, another Hawke’s Bay Cup aspirant.
Miss Stanima and Travertine were close up next. Favourite, Three Tone, was a disappointing seventh. His rider, Noel Harris, said Three Tone was travelling well coming to the turn, but "raced like a crab” when asked for an effort. He felt there was something amiss with the horse. Shuzohra dive-bombed the favourites in the Stallion Auction Stakes, second leg of the double.
