Open All Hours downs favourite
PA Invercargill Open All Hours, a lightly-raced three-year-old in Des Bayne’s Edendale stable, caused an upset win in the $15,000 Southern Supremacy Final at Winton on Saturday. The sixth favourite was
parked briefly at the 1350 metres before receiving cover leaving the straight. He was shuffled back to sixth at the 800 metres and reinsman, Clarrie Woodward, bided his time
with him until early |n the straight. <•'
In a blanket finish, Open All Hours unleashed a powerful sprint to score by a long neck from Stormy Bo Scot, with a half head to Amiable Poplar, third.
Stormy Bo Scot improved wide to share the
lead in the middle stages and received cover a short time later. Amiable Poplar, last at the 900 metres, looped the field to lead at the 200, but wilted in the final stages.
The favourite, Parties Galore, trailed the Dace-
maker Vin Ray, moved out on the turn, and battled in the straight for sixth.
Open All Hours paced the mobile 2400 metres in 3:07.4.
The consistent Espoir completed the doilble
