Post office closing
Sir, —The decision to close Fendalton North Post Office has been received not only with concern, but with some degree of puzzlement by local residents. That the site is commercially sound is testified to by Trust Bank, Supervalue, Liquorland, the T.A.B. and at least 18 other flourishing businesses. The post office in question is well patronised and one normally has to queue for service. Customers come from a broad range of categories but certainly include a considerable number of elderly citizens who find, with the post office, complete self-sufficiency in the “bustling village” of Fendalton North. Without wishing to become involved in inter-subur-ban rivalry, it is also difficult to reconcile the fact that the Fendalton Mall Post Office is to remain open. This office is patronised, in the main, by clients who own their own car or cars, and one would have thought that, on balance, the closing of the Fendalton North branch will cause the most hardship. Is it ours never to reason why?—Yours, etc.,
W. A. BLAIR. March 28, 1989.
