“I’m a non-smoker, but... A lot of my friends do smoke. It’s something I have strong feelings about. But I don’t press the point, or launch into a lecture everytime someone asks if they can smoke. After all, everyone is entitled to their own views, and should be free to pursue their own interests. I know smoking can be a pleasure, therefore I think smokers deserve the same consideration from me as I expect from them. In most cases, I don’t mind if people smoke around me provided there’s reasonable ventilation and they take care to avoid allowing smoke to billow in my face. My smoker friends and I get along very well together, always have done. In fact, I find most smokers respect non-smokers views. I know the Government is looking at passing laws against smoking, which I think is over the top. If some people consider smoking a problem, then surely it’s best solved not by Governments, but by individuals, and not with more laws, but more commonsense and courtesy. A little consideration beats a lot of legislation Science has not established that other peoples cigarette smoking causes disease among non-smokers. For further information, write to Michael J.
