Trackwork

Awapuni Special correspondent Palmerston North Noel Harris, back from Australia after two great wins on Poetic Prince, was at Awapuni yesterday morning to ride the promising colt Centime in his final trial for the Ashford Park Stud Handicap here tomorrow. A win by Centime would ensure a start in the rich Sires’ produce Stakes tomorrow week and the colt looks ready to produce a winning effort.

Harris was impressed by the horse’s work though any further rain would not help -his chances. Overnight showers left the ground on the easy side yesterday morning and times were a lot slower than on Tuesday.

Centime and Beechwood worked on the course proper, running 800 metres in 53, the last 600 in 39. Centime was slightly unlucky at Taranaki. Beechwood is fit to resume in the Air N.Z. Handicap and could run a big race, especially if it’s easy footing. Fun On The Run, a chance in the Wrightson Stakes in her first try over 2000 metres, went with Gai Gem over 1200 metres in 1.23, the last 600 in 42. Gai Gem has form to back up a goodchance in the ANZ Bank handicap. Wexford King ran home an easy 800 in 53.5, the last 600 in 38.5. He has prospects in the highweight after an unlucky second at Feilding but he needs firm ground. Trinian and Apple Brown Betty, rivals in the Wrightson Stakes though Apple Brown Betty is on the ballot list, came home 1000 metres in 1.8, the last 600 in 38. Trinian needs dry ground. She is promising but faces a big test tomorrow.

Windward Beat and Wings of Apollo ran 1200 metres in 1.23.6, the last 600 in 40.6. Noel Harris rides Wings Of Apollo tomorrow. In Charge went easily over 1000 metres in 1:11, the last 600 in 40 and he has excellent prospects in the Grasslands Handicap after an impressive win at Feilding. Myginty and Star Tripper covered 800 metres in 56, the last 600 in 40.6. Myginty is at her best for the Air N.Z. Handicap and should go close to winning. Coghill was timed the last 600 of 1200 metres in 40 and First Rullah took 38 from the 600.

Cutter and Dizzley left 800 behind in 53.6, the final 600 in 39.6 and Kingship and Sneaky Feeling ran 1000 in 1.9.4, the last 600 in 41.

Velvet Moss and Jet Seal left 800 behind in 52, the last 600 in 38 and Agent’s Blood ran an easy 1000 in 1.12. Garden Party and Noble Dawn required 55.6 for 800, the final 600 in 40.6 and Soubrette was timed 800 in 55, the last 600 in 40. The easing of the ground suited Nuclear Ann who left 1000 behind in 1.10, coming home well over the last 600 in 37.5. She has a chance in the Grasslands Handicap. Princely Row was timed 800 in the last 600 in 39 and Lexicon Lad ran 600 in 38.5.

Travertine worked from the 1200 in 1.24, the last 600 in 39. She has a good chance in the H.A.N.Z. Cup after a top run at Feilding. Straight Order who races next in the Terrace Regency at Otaki, was impressive running 800 metres in 51, the last 600 in 37.

Serenade worked well from the 1000 metres in 1.6, the last 600 in 38 and Charmante, a leading chance in the ANZ Bank Handicap, ran an easy 800 in 55, the final 600 in 40. Bronze Valley was timed 800 metres in 53, the last 600 in 39 and Le Hawk, improved by a recent race, took 120 for 1200 metres, the last 600 in 40. His Lordship sprinted 800 metres in 54, the last 600 in 39 and Royal Assent was timed 800 in 56.

Trissaring worked freely over 1000 metres in 1.6, the last 600 in 39. She goes north for the TV Stakes and after her Easter second she has to be in with a big chance. David Peake rides her again.
