Prototype guaranteed to baffle joyriders

The Rover prototype incorporates these new security features: 1. Infra-red locking uses new device which changes its frequency each time the doors are locked or unlocked. This deals with a loophole left by current infra-red systems which thieves can bust by tuning into their frequency patterns.

2. New superlocking system deadlocks all doors and prevents sill buttons being operated from outside. Even if a thief bashes in the window he will have to climb through the broken glass. 3. Removing ignition key immobilises electronic management system and means the engine cannot be started even if the starter motor is activated.

4. Side windows are protected by continuity strip which sets off alarm if glass is broken. The best defence against bricks. 5. Laminated glass in other windows is shatter proof and makes breaking in more difficult. 6. Wheel and tracking sensors set off alarm if car is jacked up or moved.

7. Modular in-car entertainment system is protected by computer coding which if removed will only work after punching in the correct code. If the wrong code is entered, the unit will shut down for periods of increasing length.

8. Chassis number is marked on all important vehicle components with labels which self-des-truct if removed. The chassis number is also stored in the electronic engine management system
