Charges denied
President Carlos Andres Perez rejected complaints received by Amnesty International that Venezuelan security forces murdered civilians and tortured prisoners during riots last month. In a letter replying to a telegram from Amnesty International’s secretarygeneral, lan Martin, President Perez said the cases Mr Martin had urged him to investigate were the product of distorted reporting and political factors.—Caracas.
