TV networks may join forces
By BARRY CLARKEj New Zealand’s two television networks are considering .'combining forces to provide domestic coverage of the America’s Gup in 1991. Television New Zealand’s,' head of sport, Mr Bill McCarthy! said the huge cost of televising the
regatta may lead to a joint effort with TV3. “We haven’t discussed it with them yet, but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility,” he said last evening. “An event of this nature would tax our resources to the limit if we went alone.”
A TV3 spokeswoman, Ms Marcia Russell, confirmed last evening that the network was unlikely to consider America’s Cup coverage unless there was a deal with another station. TVNZ had brief talks with Michael Fay’s New Zealand syndicate yesterday
