The department has a high profile on the West Coast, and the appointee will primarily be responsible for assisting the Regional Manager in all dealings with the news media, Including liaison, preparation of news releases and news feature articles, and representing the department’s position In interviews. The successful applicant will also be responsible for editing papers and publications, and providing Information, publicity and educational matter on conseration Issues and on the department’s policies and activities over the entire West Coast Region. There will be scope for creative and original public relations and publicity Initiatives to promote the work of the department and to raise public awareness of conservation. Excellent oral and written communication skills are a prerequisite for this position. A tertiary qualification relating to journalism, writing, or natural and cultural resources may be an advantage, but candidates with a suitable employment background will be considered.
