Just a hobby —trainer

NZPA-AAP Perth Sydney trainer, Kevin Rivett, will not hesitate about returning to Western Australia for a holiday. Rivett and his star pacer, Rowleyalla, have spent the last six weeks there contesting several major races including the current Inter-Dominion Pacing Championship at Gloucester Park. “It’s been a bit hot at times but the hospitality has been first class,” said Rivett. Rowleyalla, which is placed equal fourth in the series with 17 points, looks certain to make the March 17 Final. “I am not going to go and make any rash predictions (about Rowleyalla’s chances in the Final) because this is a hobby and whatever I

achieve is good enough,” Rivett said. “Racing in the final against champion horses like Village Kid and Riverlea Jack is a thrill and I know that Rowleyalla will not disgrace himself. “I’ll just keep on keeping it as a hobby and once it becomes a business I may as well call it quits.” Rowleyalla, the winner of 29 races from only 52 starts, finished a game third behind West Australian pacer Paavo over 1700 m in the opening night of heats last Friday. The four-year-old gelding battled on strongly on Monday after racing wide early to finish second behind Riverlea Jack in the 2100 m heat. Since the series began leading bookmaker Ross Cooper has slashed his price from 501 to 10-1.
