Lang out for series

NZPA-AAP Sydney A two-week suspension capped a mixed day for the Victorian reinsman, Gavin Lang, at the Golden West InterDominion Pacing Championships at Gloucester Park, Perth, on Monday. Lang drove Riverlea Jack (4-1) to victory in the sixth heat over 2100 m, but also incurred the wrath of the stewards over an earlier drive. Lang, widely regarded

as the best reinsman in Australia, was found guilty of causing interference in the fourth heat in which he drove Another Bart. Stewards suspended Lang for two weeks, which means he will miss the final heats on Friday night and the final on March 17. It is not known whether he will appeal against the suspension. Lang was dislodged from the sulky- during

the incident in which the New Zealander Tax Credit suffered severe interference. Since both failed to complete the course they earned no points, which could mean both have lost all chance of making the final. The stewards also found Lang guilty of slowing the pace too quickly after taking the lead with Riverlea Jack in the sixth heat and fined him $lOO.
