Pistol fired in bank hold-up

PA Auckland The police say a teller was taken to Auckland Hospital suffering from shock after two bullets from a pistol were fired during a post office robbery yesterday. Hospital staff said Mayawati Prasard was in a comfortable condition last evening. Senior-Sergeant Breer Basham said the robber pointed a gun at her head during the Kingsland hold-up and told her to fill a bag with money. When she hesitated he fired a bullet into the ceiling and at the postmaster’s door, shattering the glass plating. When the bag was full the robber, who also carried an 18cm knife, fled with bank staff in pursuit. The man was later found under a house with a bag containing more than $ll,OOO. A man, aged 27, will appear in the District Court at Auckland today charged with the Kingsland robbery. He is also charged with the St Luke’s Post Office robbery last month.
