Take ’im away
The Christchurch sculptor, Llewelyn Summers, and Dragan Stojanovich, of Otaki, will share the 1989 BP Art Award of $4OOO.
Summers interpreted the theme of the award, “On the Move,” with a monumental work in Carrara marble, which nevertheless expresses a swirling movement The work, entitled “Take ’im
Away,” is pictured above. Stojanovich’s oil painting, “Solution,” appears to resolve space and movement into an abstract whole.
An exhibition of the award entries includes 133 works by 80 artists. It will run at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in Wellington until March 12.
