Illi The WELLINGTON REGIONAL COUNCIL has asked us to advise on the following key appointment: GENERAL MANAGER Consequent on Local Government reorganisation, the present Wellington Regional Council will cease to exist from 1 November, 1989. A new Regional Council is to be formed, which will assume control over an extended geographical area and which will have extended responsibilities. These include maritime and regional planning, civil defence, regional transport planning, resource management, rivers control, regional parks and recreation planning, forestry operations and bulk water supply to the greater Wellington area. We are seeking a well rounded executive with a successful track record and demonstrable ability to manage and lead a multi disciplinary organisation effectively, particularly in a climate of change. The new Council will have a staff of over 300, the majority of whom will be professionally qualified. Annual income will be close to $lOO million with assets exceeding $l5O million. The position is located in Wellington City. REQUIREMENTS: • Proven ability to direct and effectively manage a large multi functional organisation. • The leadership skills to motivate specialist professional and technical managers to achieve clearly defined objectives and community expectations. • A genuine sensitivity and sound judgement to work within the political, social and commercial factors which impinge upon a high profile, service oriented organisation. • A clear and logical thinker with the ability to identify long term goals and to develop, evaluate and implement strategies to achieve them. • The ability to identify commercial opportunities and to develop initiatives to implement such activities where appropriate. • The presence, interpersonal, and communication skills to establish effective and harmonious relationships with the elected Council, industry and political groups, and external agencies such as government departments. • It is desirable to have a good understanding of local and central government policies and practices.
