Sevens revival
The Canterbury seven-a-side rugby team came storming back in the second half to beat the Otago blue team, 26-23, in the final of the regional sevens tournament in Dunedin on Sunday. Otago appeared to have the game sewn up when it led, 20-6, at half-time. But Canterbury, with tries by Steve Bachop and Mark Vincent, revived chances with a fine second half showing. Otago was still leading with time on the clock, but a sweeping movement from one end of the field to the other brought Steve Bachop a try just as the siren sounded. Scores:—
Canterbury 26 (M. Vincent, 2, S. Bachop, 2, G. Bachop tries; Vincent, G. Hill, S. Bachop conversions) beat Otago 23 (S. Stone, 2, A. Pene, 2, tries; M. Kenworth two conversions, penalty goal).
