Charles returns to Klosters
NZPA-Reuter , London Prince Charles, returns today to the Swiss ski resort of Klosters where an avalanche killed a close friend a year ago. The Prince’s ski-ing party was engulfed in the mountains above the alpine village. Major Hugh Lindsay, a former aide to the Queen, was killed. The Prince was unhurt, but another member of the group, Patti Palmer-Tomkinson, is still recovering from leg injuries she suffered when buried in the same mound of snow as Major Lindsay. The Prince, an expert skier, will be joined by Mrs Palmer-Tomkinson’s husband, Charles, who also escaped unhurt when the avalance struck on March 10, 1988.
A Swiss ski guide, Bruno Sprecher, who was with the party last year, is also expected to join the group in Klosters, where Prince Charles has skied for many years. The avalanche started above the group when they were standing near the Wang Run on the Gotschnagrat, a notoriously difficult slope.
An official Swiss investigation found that the Prince’s party was to blame for the avalanche, but there were no grounds to press charges.
