Kremer improves rating
The seemingly ageless Ans Kremer, of Westland, earned eight points towards a world ranking and slashed many seconds off existing New Zealand records at the world speed skating championships on a 400 m track at Calgary recently.
Kremer, New Zealand’s leading long-track skater for almost 20 years, re-
turned home this week after gaining world points in three of the four events. She finished twentieth in the 3000 m with a time of smin 10.72 s and that eclipsed her own national record by more than a half minute. Her time for the 1500 m of 2:33.78 was 13s better than the existing record and she finished twentysixth in the race.
The Dutch-born ice skater recorded 1:40.12 for the 1000 m (her New Zealand record is 1:46.0) and she was timed at 52.56 for the 500 m.
Although the times will not be recognised as New Zealand records because they were set overseas, the Ice Racing Federation of New Zealand will log them as best marks by a New Zealander.
