Rider’s forgetfulness costs placing
PA Auckland Rider Tony Allan cost punters a fortune when he failed to weigh in after running second on Taonganui in the Allegra Park 1400 at Avondale on Tuesday.
Taonganui ran second, but the judicial committee had no alternative but to
disqualify her after Allan failed to weigh in on returning to scale. Taonganui was the favourite and Allan’s oversight cost the connections $l6OO in stake-money. T.A.B. punters lost investments on place bets, quinellas and doubles. The race was the second
leg of the T.A.B. double. Course punters lost on trifectas, too. It was the third time in as many months Allan has been penalised for the offence and he was fined a hefty $BOO. The judicial committee’s chairman, Peter Murray, warned Allan
that any more infringements would result in a suspension or even disqualification. Allan — hero of the last Melbourne Cup with Empire Rose — is at a loss to explain why he made such a basic mistake. “I just forgot,” he said.
