Group opposes set-net ban
A group opposed to the set-net fishing ban within the Banks Peninsula marine mammal sanctuary has written to the Minsiter of Conservation with details of its opposition and requesting a meeting. “We have filed a detailed submission requesting a considerable relaxation of
the new regulations,” said the president of the Set Net Action Group, Mr Bernard Walker. The set-net ban extends round Banks Peninsula from the mouth of the Rakaia River to the Sumner Head and four nautical miles off-shore.
