North Island fours final

PA Dunedin It will be an all-North Island final in the fours at the national womens bowls championships at Dunedin today. There was only one South Island team left in the last eight and Marge Hinton (Clyde) was eliminated in the quar-ter-finals by Nan Keating (Onehunga), 30-12. t But Keating, a fours winner in 1984, was no match for Rhoda Ryan (Matamata) in the semifinals. Matamata has a strong four which includes the World Bowls representative, Millie Khan, at lead. The team also includes New Zealand trlalists Zelda Clements and Adrienne Lambert Rhoda Ryan has twice represented New Zealand in World Bowls and won the fours title at Dunedin in 1981. Matamata started strongly in the semi-final with a four and a five on the first two ends and had a massive 19-4 lead after just 10 ends. Khan was leading accurately and gave the four the foundation of the early bowls. Ryan took a six on the eleventh end and led 28-4 after 13 ends. The game was finally called off after 17 ends with Ryan winning 33-5. The former international, Joyce Osbourne (Manawatu), took four hours, 30min. to beat Jan Cooper (Pakuranga), 2321, in the fourth-round game. Results:— Post section play, found four: D.
