GENERAL MANAGER DUNEDIN ELECTRICITY This premier position has arisen from the decision of the Dunedin City Council to establish a Board to run its electricity operation. Dunedin Electricity is a leading generator and supplier of electricity with a turnover of SSOM. The General Manager will be responsible to a Board of Directors appointed by the Dunedin City Council for the effective management and operation of Dunedin Electricity. The General Manager will be expected to co-ordinate the management of a new structure of business units reporting to him/her and to select the senior management team. The General Manager must be able to manage change effectively and smoothly, have first-class leadership skills and be able to obtain a high degree of motivation and teamwork from staff. The ability to increase revenue and lower costs will be very important. It is likely that later in the year the electricity operation will become a company under new legislation. The Dunedin City Council wishes to maintain its excellent record in the electricity industry by reshaping its operation in advance of that legislation. Applicants must have a strong record of achievement in a substantial organisation. Previous experience in the electrical industry is desirable but not essential. The post will be particularly attractive to those executives disillusioned with the increasingly poor quality of life and high prices in the North and those who are already living in the Dunedin area and do not want to lose the exceptional life-style which Dunedin and Otago offer. A contract for a fixed term, with provision for review will be offered, the remuneration package being very competitive with the private sector. A Job Description and Conditions of Appointment for the position are available from Mrs Raffe, Staffing Officer, Personnel Department, Dunedin City Council, Box 5045, Dunedin, with whom applications close on March 8,1989.
