Track Woodville

Special correspondent Woodville Kentucky Sunset and The Phantom galloped well at Woodville yesterday morning in their final trials for to- • morrow’s Matamata meeting. Fast work took place mainly on the plough, which was in good order, with some on the outside of the firm course proper. Kentucky Sunset went with Legal Brief over 1200 m in 1:17.4, the last 600 m in 37.3. Kentucky Sunset shows plenty of staying promise. He failed to run on in the St Leger, but was ill at ease in the ground. Legal Brief tackles a middle-distance in the N.Z. Beefpackers’ Handicap at the Woodville meeting tomorrow. One of his toughest rivals will be stablemate Bashful Lad, which looked well when let off with light work yesterrday.

The Phantom was travelling well outside Dimerino after they ran 1200 m in 1:21.6, the final 600 m in 39.4. The Phantom should go boldly fresh-up in the Dunstan Feeds 1600 at Matamata. Noel Harris rides him and is also aboard Kentucky Sunset in the following race. Both horses are entered for big races in Sydney in the autumn.

j mi muipG auu xi an Blazer both ran good trials for the Oringi Highweight at Woodville. Jim Thorpe bowled over 1400 m in 1:27.8, the last 600 m in 36.3. He looks an early winner for John Harris. Trail Blazer ran 1200 m in 1:14.5 and no sectional times were taken. She upset at Trentham last week.
