Soccer win to Chch
Christchurch United made a bright start to the Linwood City Pharmacy Hurley Shield pre-season soccer tournament with a 4-0 win over Rangers at English Park last evening.
Two of Christchurrch’s goals in this first-round game were scored by the former New Zealand captain, Steve Sumner, including one halfway through the second half from a free kick — after a foul on Julian Bowden. The other goal-scorers were the All White, Danny Halligan, and Julyan Falloon. In the early game New Brighton had a comfortable
4-0 win over Shamrock after leading 1-0 at half-time. The goals were scored by Paul Stanley, Darrell Stanley, Chris Wikiriwhi and Stu Ogilvy. At University Oval Riccarton had a 2-1 win over Technical, which was apparently fielding a reserve team. Chris Jones scored a disputed goal in the first half and Ross Storer added another for Riccarton in the second half. Technical’s goal by Stu Whitelaw also came in the second half to temporarily equalise at 1-1. In goal for Riccarton Ray Appley had a good game.
