Schoolgirls look to past

By

JANE DUNBAR

Pupils will wear uniforms of the past, a centennial book will be launched, and a tapestry presented at a special assembly to be held at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School tomorrow. The assembly is part of the buildup to the school’s centennial celebrations, which begin in March. The book has been written by Rosemary Britten, and tells the

story of the school’s 100 years, Ancedotes and photographs from old girls are part of the book, but the story is of interest to everyone, says Mrs Britten. On the front cover is a photograph of the tapestry, woven by an old girl, Joy Prebble, to be given to the school at the assembly. The tapestry was inspired by her interest in Maori folklore and native flora, said Mrs Prebble.

Rangi, the sky-father, and Ruru, the bird hunter, are two of the tapestry’s figures. Two thousand old girls have registered.
