Woodville Special correspondent Palmerston North Kate’s Myth worked smartly the reverse way at Woodville yesterday morning, showing she is making the right progress for her showdown with Olga’s Pal in the Lindauer Stakes at Ellerslie. Fast work took place on the plough, which was in good order, and on the outside of the firm course proper.
Kate’s Myth worked with Classic March and they were in full flight by the time they reached the 400 m mark. They ran their first 600 m from there in 35.35, and although being eased down went on to complete their last 800 m in 47.55. Kate’s Myth and Olga’s Pal go into the last race in the Wrightson “Filly of the Year” Series with equal points. Trainer Murray Baker is taking Kentucky Sunset and The Phantom to the Matamata meeting on Saturday. Kentucky Sunset went 1400 m on the plough in Imin 295, the last 1200 m in Imin 15.85. He picked up Barnum at the 1000 m and they ran their last 600 m in 37.15. Kentucky Sunset could atone on Saturday for his St Leger defeat. Noel Harris rides him and is also aboard The Phantom, which strode over 1200 m with Dimerino in imin 20.75, the final 600 m in 37.95. Many horses .tfepari ng for
the Woodville-Pahiatua meeting on Saturday worked at Woodville yesterday.
Legal Brief and Maple Row clocked Imin 17.4 s for 1200 m, the last 600 m in 375. Legal Brief tackles a middledistance on Saturday, while Maple Row could atone for a disappointing run last time at Trentham. Drip Dry clocked Imin 4s for 1000 m, while Jim Thorpe ran 800 m in 49.35, the final 600 m in 36.95. Jim Thorpe is a chance in the Oringi Highweight. Bashful Lad was given an easy task before sprinting his last 600 m in 36.25. He is racing well and should be hard to beat in the N.Z. Beefpackers’ Handicap. Majestic Flight and Open Wallet clocked 37.5 s for 600 m.
Gay Optimist and Threes Company were sent 1000 m in Imin 3.85, the last 600 m in 38.55.
Yankee Zephyr was let off with 600 m in 37.65. She is a form runner for the Maroondah Stud Handicap, though could be saved for the Rangitikei meeting because of her draw. Miss Stanima completed two rounds by running 600 m in 39.15. Bretwalda clocked 39.7 s when given a similar task. Trentham winner, Trail Blazer, looked to have taken no harm from the run when she went 600 m in 37.5 s and she should be hard to beat again in the Oringi Highweight
