Prue Taylor achieves another milestone
Prue Taylor (University), who won the World Veteran Games 10,600 m marathon and cross-country in the over 40 age group in Australia last year, achieved another milestone last evening when she broke her own record for the Adidas St Martins skm race in North Hagley Park, Christchurch. Taylor’s time was 16min 44s and came only three days after she finished a close sixth in the Canterbury 1500 m senior women’s championship at Queen Elizabeth II Park. She will compete in the women’s 3000 m championship next Saturday and has a good chance of a major place. Behind her last evening
were two well-performed runners, Sue Bruce (New Brighton) and Rowyn Hocking (Christchurch). Taylor’s husband Brian finished second In the veteran men’s section in 16:03. The fastest veteran was Dave Rowell (University), who also recorded a personal best for the course. Bruce Rattray (Christchurch) was the over-all winner, in 14mln 235, but the performance of Chris Cox (Olympic) in coming second only a second behind Rattray was the surprise of the evening.
