Bush unveils Budget plan
NZPA-Reuter Washington President George Bush, in his first major address to Congress and the nation, will today unveil a Budget plan that cuts down on defence spending while lifting the lid on funding for some domestic programmes. “He’ll lay out the specific programmes that make up the Budget and all of the provisions that he will be proposing,” a White House spokesman, Marlin Fitzwater, said of Mr Bush’s televised address to a joint session of Congress. Mr Bush’s Budget plan revises the SUSI.IS trillion (SNZI.B trillion) spending plan submitted by Ronald Reagan shortly before he left office on January 20. “This is his first chance to react to the Reagan Budget by moulding it in a Bushlike fashion,” said a White House official who added that the revised plan redirects funding to education and other areas, such as the environment.
