Scots top, but ‘Angel’ rises fast
The Proclaimers made it three weeks in a row at the top of the South Island top 20 singles chart this week with their hit, "I'm Gonna Be." Last week’s No. 2 “Orange Crush,” by R.E.M., the American group who performed at the Christchurch Town Hall , last Thursday, took a dive to No. 14. It was replaced in the second spot by U2’s “Angel of Harlem.” “Bamestorming,” by the raucous Australian, Jimmy Barnes, was the best-selling album of the week. The veteran singer, Gene Pitney, made a pop music comeback this week when his rerelease of “Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart,” with the British singer, Marc Almond, topped the British pop singles chart, reports NZPA-AAP-AP from Sydney. The “Neighbours” television stars, Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, dropped one position to No. 3 on the Australian charts with their song “Especially For You.” The Australian duo also dropped from No. 5 to No. 8 on the British charts.
