Big display of Jerseys to start conference
About 130 head of Jersey cattle from 30 South Island breeders will line up at the Addington Show grounds tomorrow for the opening of the World Jersey Cattle Bureau International Conference. This will be the first time that Jersey breeders from throughout the South Island have competed at the same show. Entries have been received from Takaka, Blenheim, Karamea, Westland, Canterbury, Otago and Southland.
The South Island show will be the first event on the programme for the world conference, which will continue in Hamilton later this month. A touring party of 130 Jersey breeders from the United Kingdom, Jersey Island, Canada, United States, Australia, South Africa, Denmark and Costa Rica are expected at the show. This will be the second time the world event has been held in New Zealand. The previous occa-
sion was in 1965. Tomorrow’s Jersey show will be opened by the Mayor of Christchurch, Sir Hamish Hay, and judged by Mr Fred Hansen (in-milk classes), and Mr Malcolm Huxtable, England (dry classes), and Mrs Ann Perchard, Jersey (junior). A banquet will be held tomorrow evening followed during the next two days by the departure of tour groups on visits to other parts of New Zealand.
