Cruising in the lap of luxury
By
PAM MORTON
There are only two types of passengers on the luxury liner Royal Viking Sea — those who travel..first-class at $14,900 and those who travel deluxe at $lB,OOO. Either way, the Norwegian liner caters for those with money. Canterbury people got their chance to look at the ship, from the outside, when she arrived at Lyttelton yesterday oh a twoweek cruise through the South Pacific. The five-star floating hotel is a home away from home for many of the passengers who travel on the liner. For some it is their first experience with cruise ships. For others, the twentieth trip is still as much fun as the first. Ms Sally Podell, of Los Angeles, is. on her sixth cruise, but this is her first voyage with the Norwegian liner. “It’s a great way to travel because you can leave all your clothes on board without having tb worry about checking out,” she said. For her companion, Ms Helen Walter Gerson, the trip offers relaxation and a chance to visit a new country. There are two swimming pools, several bars and entertainment areas. The crew of 340 is made up of 44 nationalities with the officers on board all Norwegian.
