Ministry asked for smog aid
The Ministry of Energy is being asked to cough up more than $20,000 to help educate Christchurch about its smog problem. the Canterbury United Council has called for the funding to pay for most of a three-stage public awareness campaign, aimed at reducing the high pollution levels re-
corded in the city in recent winters. It includes a $7OOO campaign to inform the public on the costs of different home heating systems, a $5OOO project for schools in the region, and a scheme costing $16,800 to encourage motorists to have regular smoke emission tests on their vehicles.
