And Brian and Gail are under pressure from interfering Ivy, who is taking her family responsibilities just a little too far. 8.00 THE BILL.
8.30 FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT. Neil Billington introduces international issues with the pick of overseas current affairs programmes. 9.30 EYE WITNESS NEWS. 10.00 THE AFRICANS. A Clash Of Culture: Africa is confused. The ways of the West and of Islam are frequently at odds with traditional values. Religion, medicine, dress are all affected. African languages are stifled. Not all Africans are content to go on aping foreign ways. Kay’s sexy, avantgarde mother draws mixed reactions from the family when she visits with her seventh husband-to-be, a young Brazilian Adonis, and when obsessive thoughts of nuclear war torment David, Joe faults the boy’s teacher. 10.25 NEWSBREAK. 10.29 LATE MOVIE: HEART OF STEEL. It was a day that started out like every other day. When it ended, the steel mill had shut down and thousands of men were cut off from the only job they knew. Hope glimmers when the workers come up with a plan to buy the mill from the management and run it themselves. But their dream falls victim to the harsh facts of economics.
