No local wines
Sir,—l recently travelled overseas and was most impressed by the overseas departure lounge at Christchurch Airport. The duty-free shopping facilities were well designed and I was most impressed by the display featuring wines, cheeses, etc. However, I was very disappointed to see that not one Canterbury wine was for sale. The wines on sale were from the North Island wine-growing region. Canterbury has some excellent wines, and surely we should be promoting our region. Does the lack of Canterbury wine represent good marketing skills by the Auckland and other North Island regions or the apathy of the Cantabrians?—Yours, etc., REX YULE. January 23, 1989.
