Casinos

Sir,—lt is good to learn that Hector Kinloch and his wife have enjoyed their visit to Christchurch (January 25), but the establishment of a casino would not detract one whit from their freedom to appreciate the other amenities the city and its surroundings have to offer. Eagerness to sit in judgment on our neighbours’ preferences is one of the least attractive features in our otherwise pleasant city, the one most likely to bring us into disrepute with more liberal communities and, instead of attracting visitors, tend to drive them away.— Yours, etc., W. A. SUTTON. January 26, 1989.
