Sir,—Today’s unemployed are sacrifices to New Zealand’s future stability. Those of us who are fortunate to be working can best meet our dues, to the jobless by accepting a nil pay increase. That would reduce the number of unemployed without risk to our fragile economy. The present lack of fairness and good sense in some unions is a parallel to nearly 50 years ago when New Zealand’s future depended on sacrifices by the armed services while being betrayed by strikers abusing their privileged position.
