Charge over derailment
PA - Wellington The driver of a stock truck involved in a collision with the Silver Fern at the Tangiwai railway crossing last week had been charged with dangerous driving, the Taranaki police said.
The man, aged 43, is expected to appear in court this week. The train derailed after ploughing into the trailer unit of the empty stock truck. None of the 84 passen-
gers were seriously hurt and the truck driver suffered minor cuts to an arm. The police have said the warning lights and bells at the crossing were working.
