Compensation ordered
The Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal has ordered a dealer to pay $5OO compensation to a Christchurch man for repairs on the car he bought. The man had bought the car even though it overheated during a test drive, needing 1 y 2 buckets of water in the radiator. But soon after he found the Toyota Cressida used excessive oil — 13 litres on a trip to Auckland and back. The tribunal was told repairs totalling $2OOO were done. A warranty covered $lOOO of that and the man sought the remaining $lOOO in compensation from the dealer. The tribunal said the dealer had paid $l2O for the car warranty and, to that extent, it might be said he contributed toward the cost of repairs.—PA
