Morrison strikes back after omission
PA Auckland Danny Morrison, omitted from the New Zealand team for the first cricket test against Pakistan, took five for 85 in the Shell Trophy game against Northern Districts at Eden Park yesterday. On a pitch which offered little to the quicker bowlers, Morrison relentlessly attacked the Northern batsmen and played a major role in restricting them to a first
innings of 285. Auckland had declared at 340 for seven wickets. It is a pitch that should not suit a bowler like Morrison, but he kept the ball up to the batsmen. Sometimes he was driven. He also found the edge, and three of his victims were taken behind the wicket by lan Smith, whose five catches equalled an Auckland record for catches taken in an innings.
Martin Snedden struck two blows, showing why he has made the test squad.
