During the Restricted Fire Season it is an offence to light any fires in the open air unless a permit has been obtained from the Council office. Permits may be issued for certain types of fire on weekdays (e.g. stubble clearing) lit between the hours of 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. provided that: 1. Weather conditions are suitable. 2. The fire is patrolled until completely out. 3. The area to be burned Is surrounded by a 10m wide ploughed strip, cleared to bare mineral earth. 4. Before lighting the fire, occupiers of neighbouring properties are to be notified. The restriction does not apply to hangls or barbecues (in enclosed contalenrs), lit in a property serviced by a high pressure water supply. Please note that any permit issued is not a legal defence against claims for damage which may be caused by the fire.
