By
ALEX MCMILLAN
Saveur, stylish winner of the Unidare New Zealand St Leger at Trentham on Saturday, arrived back at his Riccarton base in grand order on Sunday evening and a trip to Victoria in March is now definitely on the gelding’s programme. The plans were revealed last evening by Saveur’s trainer, Michael Pitman, who intends assigning the chestnut two races on the campaign; the $150,000 Caulfield Autumn Classic (1600 m on March 4 as a lead-up to the $500,000 Alistair Clark Stakes (2040 m at Moonee Valley on March 18. Saveur will fly from Auckland late next month but, at this stage, no decision has been made regarding a rider. Tony Allan, the three-year-old’s skilful partner In Saturday’s $125,000 triumph, is tentatively engaged to ride Avondale Cup winner, Maurine, in the $1 million D.B. Draught Classic at Ellerslie on March 4.
