Notice of Porirua ban
PA Wellington People with psychiatric disorders in the Wellington region may be refused admission to Porirua Hospital from February 10, the Public Service Association says. The P.S.A., which represents Porirua staff, has given notice that a ban will be placed on admitting any iiew patients from the Wellington and
Hutt areas. The only exception will be admissions made by the police, who have statutory power to do so, and committals from the Porirua/Kapiti Coast area. The P.S.A. acting regional secretary, David Beck, said the proposed action had arisen from changes planned by the Wellington Hospital Board to the domiciliary psychi-
atric nursing service. The domiciliary nursing service is now administered from Porirua with three nurses assigned to cover the Hutt Valley region. These nurses also worked from the Hutt Hospital psychiatric unit. The board plans to split the service and make the Hutt domiciliary psychiatric nursing service a separate entity, not under the direction of Porirua.
