Rainforests
Sir,—ln accusing conserva-tion-orientated people of spreading misinformation, J. R. O’Regan (January 16) is adopting an old, but frequently used, strategy refined by people keen to exploit natural resources. J. R. O’Regan will argue the effects of worldwide deforestation ad nauseam. I would sooner spend my time more productively using the quantity of compelling unbiased data available. I am not interested in any point-scoring exercise, but I am keen that the majority of our population continues to actively support the conservation ethic upon which we all ultimately depend. For my part I will unashamedly roast those authorities failing in their public duty. If that means I am “very political,” then so be it. — Yours, etc., COLIN I. FUSSELL. January 17,1989.
