Peugeot convertibles arrive
People fancying a European convertible should be able to obtain a nippy four-seater for less than $35,000 any time now.
Orly Motor Distributors, New Zealand concessionaire for Automobiles Peugeot, has just landed a shipment of 30 new Peugeot 205CJ cabriolets and has announced a price of less than $35,000.
This car is an opentopped version of the popular Peugeot 205 hatchback.
Designed and developed fn association with Pinifarina, it has a normal luggage boot, unlike the hatchback.
The attractively styled body has been strengthened and includes a roof hoop and strong boot lid.
It has a hood of waterproof linen. It is interlined with padding that provides good heat arid sound insulation.
Peugeot claims that the hood will not “balloon” at high speed. Apparently the hood can be
raised or lowered in a matter of 20s. Two gasfilled struts assist the closing procedure by pushing the hood frame upward and then forward once it is unfolded. Wide doors enable easy access to the rear seat, which is of the split
and folding type to enable additional luggage to be carried. The 205CJ is powered by a 1360 cu cm single overhead camshaft engine that develops 48.5 kW and is fed by a twinchoke Solex carburettor. It is fitted with a five-
speed manual gearbox. Top speed is said to be I62km/h and it will accelerate from rest to lOOkm/h in less than 10s. All the 205CJ cabriolets are finished in white and have blue denim cloth upholstery.
