Butter spreads
PA Whangarei A fair dollop of $43,000 worth of export butter was spread over downtown Whangarei yesterday. Hundreds of 25kg boxes of the unsalted export butter going to cool storage in Port Road toppled on to the roadside as a Hikurangi truck-driver, Des Trubshoe, swerved to avoid a car.
Mr Trubshoe’s truck was loaded with 19 tonnes of butter when he had to swerve suddenly on a bend near Quay Street. This was his first spill in 30 years of driving. The boxes, glued together and stacked on pallets, all tipped on to the road, ripping the taut liner off the side of the truck.
