Church gathers in Chch
Up to 6000 Jehovah’s Witnesses are expected at Queen Elizabeth II Park in Christchurch this week for their annual convention.
The four-day Christchurch district convention for South Island faithful is one of four planned this summer throughout New Zealand and Australia.
About 90,000 people are expected to attend in total, with more than 16,000 delegates visiting four different cities in New Zealand.
A total of between 4500 ;and 6000
people are expected to attend the Christchurch programmes. The convention manager, Mr Arthur Rogerson, said conventions were also arranged for people who spoke Niuean, Rarotongan, Samoan and Spanish. The Christchurch programme would offer practical suggestions on coping with the many problems that affect humanity and the pressures on the family in times of change, he said.
The climax of the convention will be a mass ordination ceremony for new members tomorrow morning. t
